Transavia Introduces Boeing 737-800 as Airbus A321neo Struggles to Fill Seats

After the first Airbus entered service in January, only 189 of the 232 seats were sold, so the aircraft could easily be replaced by the smaller Boeing 737-800 without having to rebook passengers.

At the end of March, Transavia received the second A321neo (the PH-YHY), which has been fully operational in the timetable since April 3. Now that there are two devices that function without problems, there is a chance of one swap became smaller with a 737.

Transavia can make good use of the extra capacity, because the company is struggling with a shortage of aircraft because more aircraft than expected are on the ground for maintenance. That is why a small number of flights have been canceled for the near future.

The Dutch airline is replacing its Boeing 737-800s and -700s with the quieter and more economical Airbus A320neo family. Seven A321neos are expected to enter service this year. For the time being, no A320neos are coming to the Netherlands.

Largest aircraft in Transavia colors since 2003
With 232 seats on board, the Airbus A321neo is the largest aircraft in Transavia colors since the company leased Boeing 757-300s more than twenty years ago. In the last century, the company also flew the even larger Airbus A300 and A310.
