A Transavia flight from Valencia to Eindhoven was reversed shortly after takeoff due to possible smoke development. The pilots received a message that may indicate a fire in the hold of the aircraft, the airline told NU.nl.
Shortly after takeoff from Valencia airport, the pilots received a report of a possible fire in the hold. “In aviation, safety comes first, so in such a case you immediately turn around,” says a spokesperson for Transavia.
Once back on the ground in Valencia, an initial inspection revealed no fire. It is not known why that indication was given in the cockpit.
The passengers and staff were able to leave the aircraft safely. The passengers have been accommodated in a hotel and can board another Transavia flight to Eindhoven on Monday.
Improvement: An earlier version of this message stated that the plane turned around due to smoke. That is not necessarily correct. There was only a report of possible smoke development. We have therefore adjusted the message.
