Transavia strongly opposes plans to close Schiphol at night, to reduce noise pollution and CO2 emissions. According to De Nooijer, there is no need for a night shutdown, partly because the company’s new aircraft is quieter than the current aircraft. The CEO also warns of the impact on the reasonable price of airline tickets if Schiphol closes at night.
Night flights are important to the airline’s revenue model. Transavia wants to work three times a day, the CEO explains. “Because that means we can carry as many seats as we can and therefore continue to fly at a reasonable price. And the night is a very important part of that.”
According to De Nooijer, 73 percent of Transavia’s all-night slots – between midnight and 5am – are at Schiphol. “We are the main user in that segment. “
