(PLO)- The old apartment scene in the Tet movie May Tran Thanh restored 1:1 ratio with An Binh apartment building (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) in the studio for filming.
One of the most important scenes of the movie May is the old apartment building where Mai (Phuong Anh Dao) and Duong (Tuan Tran) lived.
And recently, the producer (NSX) revealed about the construction of the film’s context as well as his enthusiasm for this project.
“Want to recreate a Vietnamese house”
Tran Thanh is known as a director who often exploits close, familiar contexts and everyday lifestyle of Saigon on the big screen.
If it’s like in the movie Godfatherthe male artist brings the image of a beloved alley, Mrs. Nu’s house With a bustling crab noodle soup shop, it’s in Tet movies MayTran Thanh again exploited the context of an old apartment building.
Tran Thanh and director of photography (DOP) Diep The Vinh decided to film May at An Binh apartment building (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City), which has unique architecture and ancient colors.
To get panoramic footage at the apartment, the crew had to install a long crane, transport the camera by stairs up to the upper floors, and stretch a tarpaulin to cover the entire common yard area to ensure safety. Ensure the best lighting conditions.
However, the apartment setting did not meet the close-up shots inside the house, so Tran Thanh decided to rebuild the entire apartment with a 1:1 ratio in the studio.
Art director Thai Hoang Anh Dung and his crew recreated the hallway area, 6 apartment facades and 2 fully furnished houses of Duong and Mai.
Materials with high accuracy compared to reality were also diligently searched and arranged by the team to convey different intentions.
Duong’s classic house has warm tones, along with items such as a piano, bookshelves, picture frames, and bird cages to show an artistic, romantic soul.
On the contrary, Mai’s house has bright and minimalist tones, but has a high level of neatness, showing the image of a skillful woman who knows how to manage life.
“I wanted to recreate the feeling of a Vietnamese house. I made a skylight, which is also a cultural feature of Vietnamese people in large apartment buildings.
Through the skylight, people will bring air from outside into the house to cool it, and also create an environment of interference between different houses, or in other words, showing the connection between ‘worlds’. different’.
I really like the feeling of having a skylight in such a filming set” – Tran Thanh said
Tuan Tran and Phuong Anh Dao put effort into their roles
As the two actors taking on the main roles of the film, Tuan Tran and Phuong Anh Dao both showed their determination with the project.
Besides script reading sessions, Tuan Tran also spent time learning piano to serve his role.
When talking about Phuong Anh Dao, Tran Thanh recalled that on the day of casting actors for the movie, when Phuong Anh Dao performed a scene, everyone was happy because “Tomorrow is here!”.
“Phuong Anh Dao is diverse in her acting, really has an inner heart, feels very genuine. Mai’s face must make people look at it and see a woman in her thirties but very young” – Tran Thanh said.
This is also the third time DOP Diep The Vinh has collaborated with Tran Thanh, previously both worked in Godfather and Southern forest land.
Movie May will officially be released on the first day of Lunar New Year 2024.
