Trains to and from Groningen station are running again after a report of gas smell | NOW

There were temporarily fewer trains to and from Groningen on Wednesday evening due to a possible gas leak at Groningen station. A gas smell could be smelled at the platforms, but it was unclear where it came from, a spokesperson for the Groningen Security Region reported. The problems were over by 9.30pm.

Initially, NS and Arriva temporarily canceled all train traffic. Moments later, only the east side of the station was still closed. This meant that there were temporarily no trains between Groningen and Zuidhorn and Groningen and Groningen Noord. Everything went back to normal around 9:30 PM.

The fire brigade received a report just before 7.30 pm about a gas smell at Groningen station. Together with ProRail, the fire brigade tried to find out where the air came from. It could come from a gas pipe or a train. According to the spokesperson, no dangerous values were measured, but people do smoke something.

Part of the station was evacuated as a precaution. There was no danger to the environment.
