Huawei recently announced the launch of the Leadership, Employability, Advancement and Possibility (LEAP) program. The latter aims to strengthen the skills of the workforce in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector in sub-Saharan Africa. 100,000 people will thus benefit from this program according to a press release from Huawei Technologies. LEAP also aims to create a talent pool in digital professions and train the general population in new technologies.
“Digital is deeply rooted in people because it is deployed by the people and for the people. When the roots are deep, there is no need to fear the wind. Through the LEAP program, we strive to nurture more young ICT leaders who can explore more possibilities for themselves, their families, their communities, and ultimately their nations,” commented Leo Chen, President of Huawei for Sub-Saharan Africa.
At the level of Mauritius, Huawei Technologies specifies to the Challenge Plus that a new class of students has benefited since April 4, 2022 from the Huawei Certified ICT Associate (HCIA) Cloud Computing training at the University of Mauritius (UoM). This training is part of Huawei’s DigiTalent ICT Cultivation program launched in 2021. 1,000 Mauritian students benefit from this program each year from 2021 to 2023. 300 Mauritian beneficiaries have obtained their HCIA certifications, 25 local trainers are accredited by Huawei and seven local universities participate in the program.
