The General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment at the Ministry of Health held two training sessions in Port Said Governorate from 8-10 December in cooperation with the World Health Organization, by presenting the internationally accredited bridging gap program for medical care providers in basic care units, and the organization was undertaken by Dr. Mariam Shehata, director of the Primary Health Care Department at the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, Dr. Ahmed Gharib, head of primary care with comprehensive health insurance, and Dr. Rami Aziz, training officer at the Health Insurance Authority in Port Said Governorate.
Dr. Mann Abdel Maksoud, Secretary General of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Hospitals, said that this step comes in light of the achievements made by the Ministry of Health and Population and the pursuit of steady steps to achieve the best results through the comprehensive health insurance system to provide a better life and health for the citizen.
And she continued: This is the third training wave of its kind, as the secretariat undertook the task of training caregivers on the basics of mental health two years ago and trained in Port Said, Damietta, Ismailia, Suez and Luxor so that the health care provider of doctors, pharmacists, nurses and specialists can diagnose many disorders. Psychological diffusion, providing first treatment for cases and applying referral mechanisms for specialized services when needed
The Secretariat pursues this policy to expand mental health services to become accessible to the largest possible number of the public, as well as to work to remove the stigma of mental illness and to provide the opportunity for the mental patient to obtain his right to treatment so that, after recovery, the society returns to be a useful and influential member of his family, society and country.
