Trainers in Windsor are unhappy with the decision to set up a fairground-style ride near the stables during a recent meeting. Despite estimates of 8,000 attendees for the bank holiday event, trainers claim that the entertainment and funfair caused unnecessary distractions for their finely tuned racehorses. Tolstoy’s trainer, Stuart Williams, remarked that it was “madness” to have the funfair near the stables and that it would have been better placed elsewhere on the Windsor grounds. Conrad Allen, another Newmarket trainer, agreed and expressed his concern about how the lit-up atmosphere had affected his runner, Tyger Bay. The executive director of Windsor, Liam Johnson, said they followed all procedures and would review the layout of entertainment to ensure the safety of horses and customers.
