Trainer Roger Schmidt continues to trust Yvon Mvogo, even though the PSV goalkeeper made an incredible mistake for the second week in a row on Saturday evening. Despite that blunder, the Eindhoven team did win 2-1 against FC Emmen.
“It is disappointing and unfortunate that he makes a mistake in his first two games. That is not easy for him, but I am still 100 percent convinced of Yvon’s qualities,” Schmidt said after the game in the Philips Stadium. FOX Sports.
After 26-year-old Mvogo introduced the equalizer with an error against FC Groningen (1-3 win) last week, it went wrong this time in the 83rd minute. The keeper, hired from RB Leipzig, let a not too difficult pass by Philipp Max pass under his feet, bringing FC Emmen to the same level out of nowhere.
Yet the blunder was not fatal for him in this match either. Substitute Maxi Romero headed in the 2-1 deep in injury time, meaning PSV also closed the second round in the Eredivisie with three points.
“The team fought to the end and I also believed in victory. I always believe in my team. You also saw that the team wanted to give something back after that blunder and that says something about the team spirit,” said Schmidt.
“Our game was not good. We were slow on the ball, were not creative enough and made too many simple mistakes. For Romero this was at least a good match to score his first goal for PSV.”
