Trainer Ron Jans will leave FC Twente after this season. The 64-year-old coach decided not to take the team from Enschede under his wing for a fourth season. Technical director Jan Streuer is also leaving.
“I’m having a great time at FC Twente,” Jans said on the Twente website on Sunday. “After more than 2.5 years, we are further than I could have dreamed of when I was appointed. The direct placement for European football, last season, was perhaps a small miracle. Still, my feeling is that it will have been good after three seasons .”
“Of course I will continue to dedicate myself with all my heart and soul to FC Twente in the coming months. I am convinced that we will continue the season well with staff and players. There is still a lot to gain, that’s what we’re going for.”
Jans has been a trainer of FC Twente since the summer of 2020. Under his leadership, the Tukkers finished tenth and fourth in recent Eredivisie seasons.
Twente is participating in the title race this season. Jans’ team is fifth after 21 rounds and is six points behind leader Feyenoord. On Sunday, FC Volendam won 3-0 thanks to three goals in the first twenty minutes.
Streuer also leaves of his own accord. “In the summer of 2020 I was asked to help FC Twente. Then I could never have imagined it would be for a period of three years,” says the technical director. “We wanted to offer the club perspective again and I think we succeeded.”
“I am having a good time at FC Twente and I enjoy working with the people within the club. Still, I think it is good for the future of the club to now work with a new technical manager. I am happy to support him.”
It is still unknown who will succeed Jans and Streuer at FC Twente after this season.
