New coach for Cristiano Ronaldo: The Saudi Arabian football club Al-Nassr has parted ways with Luis Castro. The 63-year-old Portuguese’s contract will be terminated, the club announced on Tuesday – one day after the disappointing 1:1 draw with Al-Shorta (Iraq) at the start of the Asian Champions League Elite. According to media reports, the Italian Stefan Pioli, who coached AC Milan until May, is the favorite to succeed him.

Castro was in office for 14 months and finished runners-up with the Riyadh team last season. His successor will be the fourth coach to coach Al-Nassr since Ronaldo signed in early 2023, after Rudi Garcia and Dinko Jelicic.
Due to a virus infection, former world footballer Ronaldo missed the match in Baghdad. The 39-year-old’s contract in Saudi Arabia, which is said to earn him 400 million euros, expires in summer 2025.
