A passenger train derailed between Weert and Haelen in Limburg on the night between Saturday and Sunday. A spokesman for the fire department said there were no injuries.
It is not clear how many passengers were on the train. According to ProRail, there were about 250 people on board, while the security region reports that there are 500 passengers. “It concerns many young people who have visited the Weert fair,” said a spokesperson.
According to the NS, the front of the train derailed after a collision, but it is not known what it was. The derailed part of the train is still standing.
The passengers were brought to Roermond by a replacement train. The train that ran aground also came from Roermond. The crash also left the train stuck in the opposite direction. There were fifteen passengers aboard that train. They were taken to Eindhoven by bus.
The NS Travel Planner shows that no trains will run between Eindhoven and Roermond until at least 06:45 on Sunday morning due to the train being blocked.
