The train departed from Utrecht towards Gouda. Near Woerden, the vehicle was sent in the wrong direction, causing travelers to suddenly head towards Bodegraven.
When the error was noticed, the train was stopped in no man’s land. The train was then sent back to Woerden, where passengers could get off and continue on their way. According to occupants, it resulted in a delay of at least three quarters of an hour.
The public transport company speaks of an “exceptional situation”. According to the spokesperson, it is not clear how the error could have occurred. Shortly before the incident, there was another incident involving animals on the trail. That might have something to do with the error.
The spokesperson apologizes to travelers for the incident on behalf of the NS. “The train was already delayed. This is extra annoying for the travelers and we apologize.”
