Train Services North of New York City Disrupted by Landslide: Metro-North and Amtrak Affected

Train services north of New York City were affected over the weekend. The cause: a landslide in Westchester County.

One of the most affected companies is Metro-North, which as of Sunday morning was still reporting the suspension of service at some of its stations.

“Travel on Metro-North’s Hudson Line is delayed with trains only running hourly between Grand Central and Tarrytown and Croton-Harmon and Poughkeepsie,” was one of the reports.

The landslide originated at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, near the Scarborough station, in the town of Briarcliff Manor, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) reported.

Meanwhile, the Metro-North company described the incident as “significant” and attributed it to the rain on Saturday.

There were no injuries or people stranded due to the landslide.

The MTA published impressive images of the situation, which fortunately left no injuries or people stranded, reported Governor Kathy Hochul.

Amtrak services, which heads north and west from New York City, were also affected by the landslide. Likewise, the route from the Big Apple to Albany.

For its part, Amtrak trips to Boston and Connecticut remained active.

Kathy Hochul said in a statement that they hope to be able to restore all service for Monday morning trips.

“Our main priority is to restore service as quickly as possible,” he said.

She was also deeply grateful for the work carried out by MTA personnel and emergency first responders. “They are working to keep travelers, motorists and all New Yorkers safe,” she said.
