Train Services Disrupted at Utrecht Central Station Due to Possible Track Intruder

Nov 3, 2023 at 11:47 PM Update: 2 hours ago

There were virtually no trains running to and from Utrecht Central Station on Friday evening. NS previously spoke of “inconvenience due to logistical limitations”, but later it turned out that someone may have been walking on the track.

There was a report of a person on the track, which caused train traffic to be halted later in the evening. It is not clear whether anyone was found on the train tracks.

“As a precaution, we have stopped train traffic around Utrecht Central Station. Unfortunately, we are now dealing with the consequences of this. But we have to err on the side of caution when such a report occurs.”

NS is currently working on restarting the timetable. “It is not yet known when the disruption will be resolved,” a spokesperson said. “But according to him, a large number of trains were running normally again from 0.30 am.”

Many travelers stranded at Utrecht Central Station

Due to the disruption, “the entire complex puzzle in terms of personnel and trains is no longer correct.” “We are working hard to re-lay them as best as possible, so that the trains that should normally run can run again as quickly as possible,” says the spokesperson.

Due to the closure, many routes were prevented, because Utrecht is such a centrally located station. For example, it was almost impossible for travelers to travel to Amsterdam, Schiphol, Leiden, The Hague, Rotterdam, Arnhem and Eindhoven, among others.

Many travelers were stranded at Utrecht Central Station. The signs with departure times almost all turned red. Late in the evening it is often only possible to travel further by taxi.
