Train packed, “those who aren’t in a hurry should get off and take the next one”

“There are too many people on the train, many standing, until one of you decides to get off on your own we cannot start again”. This is the appeal made by Trenitalia staff to passengers on the regional train that left Messina yesterday at 5:03 p.m., which was due to arrive in Palermo at 7:55 p.m. But at the Cefalù stop, shortly after 7 p.m., the train remained stationary for more than half an hour due to the excessive number of passengers who boarded at the station, many of whom were crowded together standing along the corridors of the carriages.

“Please – reconstructs one of the passengers who witnessed the incident – it was said several times, with translation into English, by Trenitalia staff to the people on board, since there are no assigned seats, we ask those who are not in a hurry to get off and take the next train, otherwise we cannot leave again and we risk blocking the next convoy as well”.
An appeal that initially fell on deaf ears, to the amazement of the passengers. Until, after more than half an hour, some decided to get off and the train left again in the direction of Palermo, where it arrived later than scheduled.
