A train driver in Belgium rescued a ring-necked parakeet during a ride from Hasselt in Belgium to Ghent on Thursday. The bird was caught between the windshield wipers of the train.
The train driver stopped the train to free the injured bird, reports VRT NWS. The driver then made a ‘nest’ of a safety vest in the driver’s cabin. There the bird could recover from the fright.
At Ghent station, the driver handed over the ring-necked parakeet to a bird sanctuary. He has promised to keep the driver informed of the recovery of the animal.
The train passengers were delayed by four minutes due to the rescue operation. “But those four minutes have made a big difference to the life of the ring-necked parakeet,” says a spokesman for the Belgian train company NMBS.
