As of today, only one train per hour runs between Vlissingen and Roosendaal, instead of the usual three. This has to do with a defective track. The extra travel time can be up to an hour. According to ProRail, the problems will not be resolved before Monday.
Rail manager ProRail has received several reports about subsidence along the route. Until the subsidence is found and repaired, trains can only travel on the track at 40 kilometers per hour.
As a precaution, the NS and ProRail have decided to only run one train per hour between Vlissingen and Roosendaal. Normally there are three trains per hour on that route. The one train that now travels every hour also goes slower.
The subsidence along the track is due to the heavy rain recently. Because the subsoil in Zeeland mainly consists of clay, water is poorly drained, which leads to subsidence.
It is quite an obstacle for travelers who want to enter or leave Zeeland by train. The route via Roosendaal is the only train route to and from the province. There are also no faster alternatives to get to Roosendaal from Zeeland.
NS buses are not used, an NS spokesperson told NU.nl. “That only happens if there is a delay of one hour or more. There is still a train running.”
