Train Accident at Winterthur West Station Causes Property Damage and Minor Injury

A train accident at Winterthur West station on Friday evening (08/11/2023) caused considerable property damage. One person was slightly injured.

Shortly after 9 p.m., a construction train collided with a parked S-Bahn while maneuvering. A 25-year-old shunting employee was thrown to the ground and slightly injured. She was taken to a hospital in an ambulance to be checked.

According to initial estimates, damage to the railway infrastructure amounted to several hundred thousand francs. It is currently not known why the construction train was directed onto the track occupied by the S-Bahn. The cantonal police in Zurich, in cooperation with the public prosecutor’s office, have initiated investigations.

This accident did not cause any disruption to passenger transport. In addition to the Zurich canton police, the SBB intervention and an ambulance from the Winterthur canton hospital were deployed.
