Trail of destruction after wild overtaking in Haarlem: occupants fled | Inland

The driver came from the direction of Bloemendaal around 8.30 pm and wanted to overtake a row of cars via a traffic island – near the Schotersingel. Oncoming traffic was not taken into account.

The driver had to swerve for a car, steered back into the right lane and promptly drove a traffic light out of the ground. The car came to a stop a few meters away. As far as is known, no one was injured.

The occupants quickly fled after the accident, but probably did not get far. They would have already been arrested, reports Haarlems Dagblad. A police officer was unable or unwilling to confirm this, including whether or not the driver was under the influence. A police dog was also used in the search for the suspects.

The road was partially closed as a result of the accident and traffic was blocked.
