Within 4 days, a girl and an elderly man became victims of traffic accidents while crossing pedestrian paths in Plovdiv. One victim was 13-year-old Gabriela, who lost her life after a driver with a year’s experience swept her into the crosswalk she was crossing with her mother.
Gabi barely buried, the war on the roads took a second victim – this evening (July 15 – note ed.) – an 83-year-old man was swept away by a 19-year-old driver again on a pedestrian path on Hristo Botev Blvd. between the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Central station.
In connection with the first accident, the people of Plovdiv went on a peaceful protest to demand safe streets for themselves, their children and their parents. However, after the second serious incident, the people of Plovdiv began to raise their heads more and express dissatisfaction on social networks. Here is an opinion that Plovdiv24.bg published without editorial intervention:
People, what does it cost you to be reasonable? Is it so complicated to be attentive to life, yours and other people’s? News of lives taken is constantly pouring in and some are taking a breather because they got away with it today, what about tomorrow?
What if tomorrow is you? If it’s a parent, grandparent, your child? If tomorrow someone like you falls asleep at the wheel, or drinks before getting in and it only takes a second for the misfortune to happen? Is it really that hard to be reasonable?
Drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, if you are going to ride a dinosaur – you must protect yourself first, then others. You are not alone on the road, understand how responsible it is to preserve life together, because a second one may be given to you, it may not be given to you – whoever believes in what.
I want to believe that when I go out into the street tomorrow, I will return home unscathed. I want to believe that each of you will return home unscathed. Someone is waiting for you, someone is waiting for the other.
If you live alone, something is waiting for you – a pet or dreams. Is it really that hard to stop the war on the road? Is it so hard to tell her “Enough, I want to live!”?
