Alexis Martinez, and young dominican 26-year-old who worked as an officer of the New York Police, was found dead together with his padre in an apartment of The Bronx this Wednesday.
According to the authorities, the young police officer was shot in the head while he was sleeping by his padrewho has not yet been identified. After committing the act, the father committed suicide.
A pregnant woman who was in the apartment at the time of the event is hospitalized, police told local media.
The incident took place around 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday. in an apartment on Fteley Avenue, near East 172nd Street, in the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx.
Martinez joined the police in 2018 and worked in the Narcotics Division in the Bronx.
“It is an unfortunate tragedy because they are Dominicans, we are Hispanic and this hurts us a lot,” a local resident told a news outlet.
“Our hearts are heavy as we honor our fallen brother, Police Officer Alexis Martinez, who was tragically taken from us today. We stand with his family and fellow officers as they cope with this unspeakable loss. Please keep our officer and his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers,” said Edward Cabán, the new commissioner of the nypd.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams also mourned the event and offered his condolences to the Martinez family.
“Anyone who has worn the uniform of the nypd know this pain We know how scared our families were to receive this call. On behalf of the city he served, I offer our deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, and brothers and sisters of Officer Alexis Martinez at the nypd“, he expressed.
