A 71-year-old Hispanic grandmother was about to cross the sidewalk at the corner of East 138th Street and Brook Avenue, in the Bronx, New York, when a stray bullet killed her. The security cameras captured Mrs. Enriqueta Rivera standing waiting to move on the street when suddenly a shootout broke out.
They started shooting, so I told her and she couldn’t run, she stayed there. When I saw that she was screaming, she told me ‘They hit me,’” said a witness.
In the tragic scene, the grandmother lay dying on the pavement while The man who would be the target of the attack fled the scene.
The police counted the shell casings and mentioned that they belonged to a semi-automatic pistol, in addition to the fact that it all started as a confrontation between two subjects.

That dispute escalated and one of the men pulled out a gun and started shooting when he was on Brook Avenue,” said NYPD Sergeant Carlos Nieves.
Meanwhile, another 34-year-old woman who was selling food on the street was injured in the arm.
Authorities indicate that this is the third shooting that has occurred in the Bronx in the same week and that stray bullets have hit four people, including a child only 8 years old.

The New York police assure that these shootings are related to disputes between gangs, although in the cases of the child who was shot and the woman who was grazed by a bullet there have been arrests, in the case of the shooting that took the life of Enriqueta Rivera, no one has been captured yet.
