Tragic news from Portugal: the eighteen-year-old son of a former top football player Michael Ballack died in a quad bike accident on Thursday.
Emilio Ballack is said to have been fatally injured around 2 a.m. in a quad bike accident in Troia, Portugal, south of Lisbon. He was on holiday with his father, who has a country house there. More details are not yet known, according to Portuguese media.
Emilio is the second of three sons Michael Ballack has with his wife Simone Lambe. Ballack is regarded as one of the best German footballers of all time, having played for Kaiserslautern, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
Chelsea offered his condolences on the loss. “Everyone associated with Chelsea is shocked and saddened by the death of Emilio Ballack, at the terribly young age of eighteen. Our thoughts go out to his father Michael and the rest of the family.’
