A woman from mainland China ran to Jiangsu to hide from her ex-boyfriend, a man surnamed Liu, but was killed unexpectedly. It turned out that she clicked on the news link sent by her ex-boyfriend, and the GPS location was leaked. In the end, Liu Nan was sentenced to death for homicide, and the App operator was also sentenced.

According to “CCTV Today’s Statement”, in June 2019, Liu Nan walked into a convenience store in Suzhou. He first went to the freezer to get a can of beer, then made a phone call and asked the clerk where the store was. Afterwards, he said, He killed his wife and called the police and was arrested shortly after.

According to the police investigation, 32-year-old Liu Nan killed his ex-girlfriend Jia Nu. The two were not husband and wife. They only dated for a period of time in 2017. At that time, Liu Nan was just released from prison. Because of her family’s opposition, Jia Nu proposed breaking up several times, but he refused. She left her hometown in March 2019 to work in Suzhou.

At first, Liu Nan searched for her in Suzhou for 10 days, and also found a mutual friend with Jia Nu. The friend said that he did not know where Jia Nu was. However, a friend gave Liu Nan a “Location Detective” WeChat App, which contains many news links and can get location information, so Liu Nan sent a message. Opened it, and found the positioning function in it, and asked Liu Nan what he wanted, but he didn’t expect the phone and WeChat to be blocked by him.

Afterwards, Liu Nan found Jia Nu’s address through positioning, found that she had another new love, asked her out to negotiate, and then brutally killed her, and then reported the crime himself. In 2020, the Suzhou Municipal People’s Procuratorate accused Liu Nan of committing homicide and filed a public prosecution in the court. Prosecutors believe that if Liu Nan had not found Jia Nu through the location detective, the murder may not have happened.

In the end, the court sentenced Liu Nan to death with a two-year reprieve. And the two app designers sold more than 4,000 pieces of location information to others, making illegal profits of more than 80,000 yuan (about NT$350,000), and had to pay about 83,000 yuan (about NT$360,000).
