“Friends” co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane and executive producer Kevin Bright also issued a statement. “We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by the death of our beloved friend Matthew,” they wrote.
“It still seems impossible. We can only say that we feel happy that he was part of our lives,” we read. “He was a brilliant talent. It’s a cliché to say that an actor plays a role himself, but in the case of Matthew, there are no better words. From the day we first heard him take on the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us.” – they added.
“We will always cherish the joy, light and blinding intelligence that he brought to every moment – not only in his work, but also in life. He was always the funniest person in the room. Moreover, he was the sweetest, had a giving and selfless heart… It truly is this (day – ed.) when our hearts are broken,” wrote the co-creators of the hit series.
An autopsy is scheduled
An autopsy will determine the exact cause of the actor’s death.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Perry, 54, was found unconscious in a hot tub.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey told CNN that the emergency call was received at 4:07 p.m. on Saturday.
