Eleven employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) have become victims of the conflict between Palestine and Israel. Their deaths were announced by UNRWA Deputy Director for Gaza Affairs Jennifer Austin.
“It is with deep sadness that I confirm that 11 UNRWA personnel have been killed in the Gaza Strip since 7 October,” it says in the statement. It is specified that among the dead were five teachers, a gynecologist, an engineer, a psychologist and three support staff. Some members of their families also died, the statement said.
The military conflict between Palestine and Israel began on October 7 with a special operation by the Palestinian group Hamas. Militants fired 5 thousand rockets at Israel and broke into the border areas of the country. Gaza militants say their main task is destruction of Israel.
It was previously reported that the Israeli military discovered 40 bodies of babies in the agricultural commune of Kfar Aza. The total number of victims of the armed conflict is 1,200 Israelis.
