An 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother were killed in the American state of Michigan when a possibly drunk driver crashed into a children’s party. Several children and adults were seriously injured. Some victims are in serious condition.
A 66-year-old woman entered the Swan Creek Boat Club building south of Detroit around 3pm local time, where a children’s party was taking place. The girl and the boy died on the spot. Three children and six adults were taken to hospital by helicopter and ambulance with life-threatening injuries. Other victims received first aid on the spot. Some of them were also taken to the hospital.
“First responders said the scene was extremely chaotic, with high levels of emotion from those directly involved and those who witnessed the horrific event,” said Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle under the influence, resulting in death. Police say they received information that the woman may have been at a nearby cafe before the incident. That is being investigated.
