Jakarta –
A young mother in Panpajung Village, Modung, Bangkalan, Mukarromah (25) lost her baby. The baby’s head was severed and left in the mother’s womb. Mukarromah’s family also reported the midwife who handled the baby on suspicion of malpractice.
Reported detikJatim, this heartbreaking incident occurred during the birthing process at the Kedungdung Community Health Center, Bangkalan. Mukarromah initially came to the Puskesmas intending to ask for a referral letter to the hospital because her baby was breech.
However, the midwife named Mega recommended giving birth at the Community Health Center because there were already four openings. However, the birthing process did not go smoothly, the baby’s head was left in the mother’s womb. This incident occurred on Monday (4/3) early morning.
In the end, Mukaromah was rushed to the Glamor Husada Mother and Child Hospital (RSIA), Bengloa, Tanjung Jati, Bangkalan for surgery to remove the baby’s head which was left in her womb.
Hosridah, Mukarromah’s biological mother, stated that her daughter’s husband had reported the Kedungdung Community Health Center midwife who handled the birth process to the police. “When it comes to the legal process, yes, I don’t know anything. I leave it completely to the police,” said Hosridah as reported by detikJatim, Sunday (10/3/2024).
Health Department explanation
Meanwhile, the Bangkalan Health Service (Dinkes) denied that the medical procedures carried out by midwives at the Kedungdung Community Health Center were malpractice. He said the midwife’s actions helped Mukarromah (25) give birth, but the baby’s head and body broke off while helping her according to the SOP.
“We are carrying out the actions that have been carried out according to the SOP according to procedures,” said Head of the Bangkalan Health Service, Nur Hotiba, to detikJatim when confirmed, Monday (11/3/2024).
