(BA): On Saturday evening, all emergency services went to an apartment building in the Arna district in Bergen following a report of the smell of smoke and a possible fire. When the fire brigade arrived, the apartment was cold but dirty. Inside the building they found a lifeless person.
– A man was found who was lifeless and he was declared dead by health personnel soon after. We are now carrying out investigations to look more closely at what may have led to the fire and the death, says Ivar Kvant, incident leader at the West police district.
He says that forensics will be called in to investigate the scene of the fire.
– Several hypotheses
– Basically, this is a death where we do not have clear answers to what has happened, but there is no reason to believe that anything criminal has happened at the present time, Kvant tells BA.
– Do you have a theory about what could have happened?
– It is too early to say. We have several hypotheses, but we never lock ourselves into one hypothesis. We will talk to the others who live on the site now, says Kvant.
Came to cold apartment
The fire service was notified of the incident at 6:16 p.m. They arrived at a filthy apartment.
– It is impossible to say how long ago it burned. It was cold in the apartment when we arrived, says Jørn Davidsen, head of the fire service.
