Libya was hit by a powerful hurricane, as a result of which more than 2,800 people were killed and thousands were missing.
Osama Hammad, head of the Libyan government appointed by Parliament, said that entire neighborhoods in the city of Derna, containing thousands of citizens, had disappeared into the sea, noting that the government had declared the city a disaster area.
As a result of this natural disaster, the Libyan National Unity Government decided, during an emergency meeting, to declare three days of mourning, in addition to lowering the flags at half-mast.
On the other hand, football activity in Libya is currently halted after the end of the past season and Al-Ahly Tripoli being crowned champions for the 13th time, and awaiting the start of the new season.
The city of Derna includes a number of football clubs, including Darnis, Al-Afriqi, Al-Nosour Martouba, Al-Shallal, Al-Safa, Ittihad Al-Fataeh, Al-Nawras, and Al-Ahly Derna.
