The life of a 14-year-old teenager ended unexpectedly on Friday afternoon. While he was riding his bike in the Middlesex County town of South River, he was struck by a pickup truck driven by a man who later decided to run away.

As reported by the New York Police, the incident occurred at 4:20 pm, at the intersection of Whitehead Avenue and Russell Avenue.

Michael Arena, 63, was arrested and is charged in connection with the fatal hit-and-run.

A surveillance camera captured the moment the teenager was run over

The camera belongs to a neighbor from that same street, who said that the images left him breathless.

The teen was taken to a hospital minutes after first responders arrived. Despite the fact that he was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation and assistance with vital signs arrived at the center, he died shortly after.

Michael Arena remains in custody at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center. He is expected to be processed in the next few hours from the High Court.
