On Friday, the Qalyubia governorate, north of Cairo, witnessed a tragic incident in which a father and his son were killed while they were embracing each other inside the fire, during a fire that broke out in a small restaurant for “foul and ta’miya”, where they were working.
The security services in Qalyubia received a notification that a huge fire had broken out in a restaurant in the Al-Qithariya area in the Qaha district, and that the fire had detained the restaurant owner and his son inside.
Civil defense forces and ambulances attended and the fire was brought under control, but the father and son were found dead by the fire and fumes.
Nasser Kamel, a resident of the al-Qithariya area, which witnessed the fire, said, “The fire started from the door of the restaurant where the oil fryer was working, and suddenly the regulator of the gas pipeline exploded, resulting in a huge fire igniting quickly.”
He continued to “Sky News Arabia”: “A curtain of huge flames engulfed the door of the restaurant, while the father and son of the owner of the restaurant were inside preparing the falafel dough in preparation for cooking it in the pan that caught fire.”
He added, “For this reason, the two were unable to get out, and the people also could not enter to save them.”
For his part, another eyewitness, Wajdi Nabhan, said that the father, Reda Abdel-Badie, 60, and his son Ahmed, 29, were found dead inside the restaurant after the civil defense managed to put out the fire.
He added to “Sky News Arabia”: “The father was sitting on the floor in the place designated for preparing food, while his son was embracing him to protect him from the fire, so the latter was the most affected by the fire.”
And he added, “The fire devoured the son’s back almost completely, because it was coming from behind him.”
He explained, “What added to the tragedy was that the youngest son was outside the restaurant at the time of the fire, and was unable to save his father and older brother, and he was screaming in the street to gather the people to save them.”
It should be noted that the bodies of the father and his son were transferred to the morgue of Qaha Central Hospital, at the disposal of the Public Prosecution Office, which investigated the incident.
