Tragic Fire in Animal Clinic’s Stable Results in Two Animal Deaths and One Serious Injury

Two animals died in a small fire in the stable of an animal clinic in Oldeholtpade. A foal and a horse died due to smoke development. Another horse was seriously injured.

The fire on the Stellingenweg was quickly under control, reports the fire service. Straw would have burned in the shed. Because staff may have also inhaled smoke, an ambulance has been called to the scene.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit in a heat lamp in the barn. The foal by that lamp didn’t make it. The horse opposite is also dead, possibly from the stress. This is how veterinarian of the clinic Marco de Bruijn indicates.

A third horse was seriously injured, with burn marks on the legs and probably also lung problems from the smoke. The question is whether the beast survives.

De Bruijn also says that the younger employees of the clinic in particular have been badly affected. “We have never experienced this before. You just need such a lamp. You do your very best here together to save animals. And then this happens to horses that often already have something life-threatening.”
