Tragic Fire Engulfs Grande Costa D’Avorio Vessel: Two Firefighters Lose Their Lives

Our reporter Joaquín Torres, from Univision 41, went to the scene and verified that the flames detonated on the 11th and 12th floor of the Grande Costa D’Avorio vessel. At least 500 cars were on board.

“A large number of firefighters went to port 10, while the crew tried to remove cars and trucks,” he explained.

Wane Brooks Jr., 49, with more than 16 years of service to the Newark Fire Department. Agusto Acabou, 45 years old, with more than 9 years of service.

Five other firefighters were also injured and were taken to Newark University Hospital.

“We have lost two of our best men in the city, without hesitation they gave their lives,” Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said.
