Tragic Fall: Cartoonist Jon Medwick Plunges from 15th Floor in NYC Chelsea Apartment

Jon Medwick, a 62-year-old cartoonist, fell from the 15th floor of his apartment in Chelsea (NYC), despite his girlfriend’s desperate attempts to catch him and save his life, according to police and witnesses.

The tragedy occurred early Tuesday morning in the 300 West 23rd St. building where Medwick, who worked for the WebMD health portal, lived, detailed New York Post.

A police source said Medwick’s unidentified 45-year-old girlfriend woke up to find him standing by the window. She tried to grab him and hold him, but “he ran away.”

Police responded to a 911 call at the building around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday. Detectives do not consider his fall to have been a criminal action.

“His apartment is at the back of the building. From what they said, he jumped from the window of his apartment,” commented a resident without giving his name. Medwick, who lived in the building for more than a decade and served on the board of his cooperative, was described by his neighbors as a “very nice” and “outgoing” guy.

A person in the building said an ambulance took Medwick to the hospital on Sunday and brought him back. Police commented that he was “depressed” before the fall.
