Tragic Drowning of St. Petersburg Triathlete Elena Smirnova at Barcelona Ironman

An athlete from St. Petersburg, Elena Smirnova, at the Ironman triathlon competition in Barcelona. The athlete’s sister told Fontanka about this on October 7. Smirnova, 41 years old, drowned while swimming 3.86 km.

“She was a very good person. She was like a ray of sunshine. Where she appeared, everyone was happy and happy. She had a very clever sense of humor. It was always a pleasure to communicate. She is intelligent and very beautiful,” said her sister.

According to her sister, Elena is engaged in business in St. Petersburg. She was married. The couple had no children. I became interested in sports three or four years ago. Soon after I started training, I started going to different competitions. She has won several awards in various amateur and semi-professional competitions.

The relatives are now deciding with the insurance company the question of transporting the body from Spain.

“I hope the body is returned to us, not the ashes. They feared that the ashes will be returned in 90% of cases. Maybe the insurance will be able to solve this case,” said the deceased’s sister.
