A painful accident documented by scenes reported by Greek media, on Wednesday, of a young man drowning after being pushed by the crew of a ferry that was about to leave the port of Piraeus, near the capital, Athens.
In the details, the accident occurred on Tuesday while the “Blue Horizon” ferry was about to leave the port of Piraeus for the city of Heraklion on the island of Crete, according to the “Greek Reporter” website.
A video shows a passenger attempting to board the ferry through the boarding platform, while two of the crew try to prevent him from doing so and then push him, and he falls into the water between the boarding platform and the dock.
The clip circulating on social media also shows the victim, Antonis Kariotis (36 years old), who was swallowed by the water, as his trace completely disappeared as soon as he fell, amid the eruption of water, apparently due to the ferry’s engines.
His body was later found, and the ferry captain and crew members were arrested, to be brought to trial.
It appears from the situation that the victim may not have had a boarding ticket, or may have been late for departure.
