A 42-year-old woman drowned in New York’s Fishkill Creek, a tributary of the Hudson Riverafter falling while someone was taking a picture of her.
Beacon Fire Chief Tom Lucches in Dutchess County told the media that a witness at the scene witnessed the victim, Sukanya Basu, slipping and falling down an embankment at approximately 6:40 pm on Tuesday the 18th.
Fire department units arrived on the scene within 60 seconds and immediately began searching for the victim in the area of 50 Leonard St. The woman was found unconscious at the bottom of a 15-foot embankment and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Beacon Police are investigating the incident. So far, no further information is available, as reported by News 12. According to an obituary posted online, Basu was an immigrant economist from India, mother and wife.
In a similar case, this week a mother and her 5-year-old daughter died after being swept away by a flooding river in Connecticut.
