Tragic Discovery: Missing Toddler Found Dead in Southern Germany

A girl (2) who had been missing since Sunday has been found dead in southern Germany. More than a hundred police officers, a helicopter and sniffer dogs were looking for the toddler. She had somehow escaped from her parents’ house.

Divers found the girl’s body on Tuesday morning in Bingen, south of Stuttgart. According to the German newspaper Bild, the victim’s name is Melissa (2). The toddler was reported missing to the police at 7:21 PM on Sunday. According to the police, the girl probably disappeared around 4 p.m.

Due to the low temperatures it was already assumed that the child was in great danger. At the time of her disappearance, the girl was wearing only pajamas.

River searched

The Lauchert River is near the toddler’s parents’ home. Searches were carried out there on Sunday and Monday in vain with drones, a helicopter, sniffer dogs and a thermal camera. “A sniffer dog picked up Melissa’s scent,” said police spokeswoman Daniela Baier. “The track ended at the river.”

On Tuesday morning, investigators searched with sonar equipment in the Lauchert, in a zone of five kilometers between the last track to the girl and the place where the river flows into the Danube. They discovered the body.

Escaped from home

Although the parents’ home has been sealed and evidence has been secured, investigators are currently assuming a tragic accident. There is nothing to indicate a crime.

According to the parents, Melissa (2) managed to sneak out of the house at an unguarded moment, with a dramatic outcome.
