The joint SAR team found a 9-year-old boy, Jihan, one of the victims long boat accident carrying 18 people in Buruwai waters, Kaimana, West Papua. The boy was found dead.
Reported BetweenMonday (3/7/2023), the victim was found dead not far from the scene of the incident and was immediately evacuated to the Kaimana District Hospital which was then handed over to the victim’s family, said Head of the Timika SAR, George Randang.
With the discovery of the deceased, the search for victims was stopped and the SAR potential involved was returned to their respective units.
The motorized boat incident was discovered after the Timika Search and Rescue office, through the Kaimana Search and Rescue Post, received a report from Bernard regarding a fiber long boat with a 40 PK engine, Friday (30/6), at 10.40 WIT, capsized due to being hit by waves.
The boat with 18 passengers capsized while en route from Kaimana to Esenia Village, Buruwai District, Thursday (29/6), around 23.00 WIT.
The unlucky boat was scheduled to arrive at Esenia Village, Buruwai District, Friday (30/6), at 01.00 WIT in the morning, but during the journey the long boat sank between the waters of Mandais Island and the Burowai estuary.
With the discovery of Jihan, six people died in the incident because earlier Friday (30/6) five bodies were found, namely Nurmayanti Majit (50), Abraham (4), Masdiyana Kudo (29), Glend Edwar (5) and Putri (4). ).
The 12 passengers who survived were Marsianus, Arnol, James, Yosias, Sedek, Triska, Milka, Riski, Maya, Kristopol, Siska and Neti, said Timika SAR chief George Randang.
