A double tragedy apparently caused by an ordinary children’s game. A few days ago, a 4-year-old twin brother and sister lost their lives in Jacksonville, Florida (USA), after a toy box in which they got stuck accidentally closed. were huddled together to end the night.
As reported by New York Post, the father of the two victims put them to bed as usual in the early evening of Friday, September 1. The next morning, the small family, also made up of the mother and two older children, was however surprised not to find the twins in their respective beds.
Their brother finds them in the toy box
The parents and the two eldest therefore began to call the names of the two little ones, without getting an answer. While searching their room, one of the older brothers ended up opening a toy chest and finding the twins lying close together inside, eyes closed. The mother of the two children then realized that they were no longer breathing.
Quickly arriving on the spot, the emergency services could not do anything to save the lives of the brother and sister, who apparently died of asphyxiation. As the bereaved mother explained in a message posted on Facebook, the police were able to trace the course of events that night, with the help of the family of the deceased.
A door that is too airtight
Very close, the twins had indeed the habit, when they woke up at night, to go back to sleep together out of their bed. That evening, they would have chosen the toy box in which their stuffed animals were piled up. After removing most of the comforters from the trunk, the two children had curled up against each other to sleep.
For some unknown reason, the open safe door would then have closed in the night. This hardly letting air filter inside the trunk, the children would then have gradually “lack of oxygen”, according to their mother, and would have died in their sleep.
