An American woman in her 30s died of water poisoning after drinking 2 liters of water in 20 minutes.

On the 4th (local time), abc news and the independent reported the story of Ashley Summers (35) from Indiana, USA, who died of water poisoning on the 4th of last month.

At the time, Summers took a trip with his family to nearby Freeman Lake and, feeling thirsty, gulped down a glass of water. Afterwards she started having sudden headaches and dizziness. In the end, she and Summers and her family went home, and Summers passed out in her garage.

The family hurriedly took Summers to Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital. In the end, Summers never regained her consciousness. It was the water that became her problem. It was reported that Summers drank four 500mL bottles of water, a total of 2 liters, in 20 minutes. This is equivalent to the recommended amount of water to drink during the day.

Medical staff attributed Summers’ death to water poisoning. Devon Miller, Summers’ brother, said: “A close examination revealed that Summers’ brain was swollen and there was no blood flow to her brain.

Hydration intoxication is a condition in which the osmotic pressure of body fluids decreases due to the intake of large amounts of water, which disrupts the balance of water and sodium in the blood. In this case, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and disorientation may occur. If not treated early, it can lead to seizures or coma.

Alok Hawani, a doctor at the hospital, said that water intoxication is “a rare occurrence,” but that “drinking too much water in a short period of time is a problem.” “If you fall into a state of water poisoning, you will experience early symptoms such as feeling extremely tired and feeling a headache. If you suspect water poisoning, visit the emergency room without hesitation.”

According to the report, in order to prevent water poisoning, it is good to take water at regular intervals according to the daily recommended intake. Also, since the kidneys can process 1 liter of water per hour, it is not recommended to drink more than 1 liter of water per hour. If you feel thirsty due to excessive sweating in hot weather, it is also good to eat foods with electrolytes such as fruits or ionic beverages.

Meanwhile, Summers, a mother of two, passed away as an organ donor applicant, giving others the gift of new life. “Summer’s heart, lungs, liver, etc. were donated,” Miller said.
