Thomas “Tom” Cooper, a 56-year-old real estate broker, died yesterday after falling from his luxurious apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan (NYC) and apparently left a farewell letter.
The doorman of the exclusive four-story building identified the victim as Cooper, a real estate broker for the Douglas Elliman firm. Police believe he jumped from the top floor of 18 E. 67th St., just steps from the coveted upscale shopping area of Madison Avenue.
He was found on the sidewalk around 7:19 a.m. Tuesday. EMS paramedics took him alive to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
“He was a good guy. “I am very sad, very sad… He always talks to me (ba),” he said to the New York Post Superintendent Renato Cera, who was in the building Tuesday morning and returned when his manager called him to report the apparent suicide.
The victim lived alone and had no family coming to visit him, Cera added. “He was always alone.” The last time she saw Cooper was about two weeks ago. “He seemed happy…”
Cooper had surgery “on his stomach” over the summer, Cera said, although he could not confirm exactly what type of surgery it was.
Cooper’s latest Instagram post It was a smiling photo next to an elaborate Christmas tree. “The magnificent lobby of the police building at 240 Center St!” the broker wrote.
Bill Hogan, property manager of the building, described Cooper as an “excellent resident. He was one of my favorite tenants… very good person. It is a pity. It’s just sad what happened,” he added.
