While the voice of a reader reciting the Qur’an in a funeral pavilion, interspersed with the sounds of gunshots, followed by the sound of wailing and screaming, a young man received a gunshot in front of the funeral procession while he was standing at the corner of the street with his friends.
At that time, Basma, the victim’s mother, was talking to her mother. The gunshots prompted her to run to the balcony of her apartment to investigate the matter. The mother was surprised by her son, Saif, injured in his left shoulder. “I ran screaming down the stairs and found my son beaten by fire and drowning in his own blood in front of our house.” She says, “He told me, ‘Mom, I’m going to see my friends and I’m coming again.’”
“Basma” ran down the street in search of a tuk-tuk to save her son from death. “I removed my son Makhram and ran with him,” in front of a wide road bearing the name of the emergency and reception rooms at Nasser General Hospital in Shubra Al-Kheima. The mother kept waiting for the surgeon to come out to calm her down and reassure her heart about her son’s condition: “ Every now and then they tell me the condition is not stable, so I pray for him,” the mother tells Masrawy.
It took “Saif” 5 continuous hours inside the hospital’s operating room until he died after the doctors’ efforts to save him failed as a result of a severe drop in blood circulation after he received a gunshot wound in the chest and left shoulder area, which led to the heart stopping, according to the initial signed medical report. On the victim.
“Saif” was the victim of the greed of a person named “Nabil” in the Shubra area for a jacket worn by his friend “Mustafa.” They quarreled together last Thursday night, and each of them assaulted the other. The first injured the latter with a bullet fired from a birdshot when he asked him for a sum of money in his jacket amounting to 500 pounds. The injured person did not go to the hospital so as not to ask about what happened.
Mustafa did not forget Nabil’s attack. He prepared his equipment and went, armed with a cartridge, to the funeral home where the second person was, when he fired a shot, accidentally hitting Saif.
After arresting the perpetrators, after watching the surveillance cameras and hearing the statements of witnesses in the incident, the Public Prosecution authorized the burial of the body after the forensic doctor completed the autopsy to prepare the medical report and clarify the causes of death.
In her dark black uniform, Basma looks every now and then at a picture of her beloved Saif hanging in the middle of the street: “His companions collected money and hung a banner with the words “Martyr of Al-Nasr Lane” written on it. She remembers the mother, whose features were covered with sadness before she continued her speech, “Take money from me and buy a set that he would bring with his friends on New Year’s Eve. My son was killed before he could put on his new clothes.”
The mother hopes for fair retribution from the perpetrators, especially since her son was not a party to the battle. “I want to get justice for my son who is gone. He was going down to see his friends under our house.”
