Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) University is in mourning. A student, Galang Edhi Swasono (20), died while performing study on Sempu Island, Malang Regency, East Java (East Java).
IPB University expressed his condolences for the death of the student member of the Forest Resources Conservation and Ecotourism Student Association (Himakova) of the Faculty of Forestry and Environment (Fahutan).
“The IPB University family is deeply saddened and condolences over this incident. We hope that the family, friends and closest people left behind will be given strength and fortitude over this incident. Our best prayers, may Galang get a worthy place by His side,” said the Chancellor of IPB University , Prof Dr Arif Saftria, in his statement to journalists, Friday (29/12/2023).
Before being found dead, Galang was reported missing in Semut Bay, Sempu Island area, Malang. A number of parties were involved in the search for Galang.
Galang’s body was found by fishermen floating in Semut Bay on Friday (29/12), at 07.30 WIB.
For your information, Galang went to Sempu Island for research or expedition. Head of the IPB University Communications Bureau, Yatri Indah Kusumastuti, explained that the Surili Expedition activities will take place on 18 December 2023-2 January 2024.
IPB expressed its thanks to all parties who assisted in the Galang search process, including: the East Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), the National SAR Agency (Basarnas), the Indonesian Navy, the Water and Air Police (Polairud), the Forest Police, the Regional Disaster Management (BPBD) East Java Province, Malang Regency BPBD, East Java Maritime and Fisheries Service, Perhutani, Trenggalek SAR Post Rescue Team, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), PSR, MSR, IMPALA UNMER, PPMR, Rapi, WLP, Babinsa Sendang Biru, fishermen, victims’ families, and other parties.
Galang’s body will be autopsied
After being found, the victim’s body was taken to Syaiful Anwar Hospital (RSSA) Malang City for further treatment, before being taken home by the family.
Dean of Fahutan IPB UniversityProf. Dr. Naresworo Nugroho, said that Galang’s body was evacuated to the hospital for an autopsy.
