Tragic Death of Former YouTube CEO’s 19-Year-Old Son at UC Berkeley Sparks Investigation

The 19-year-old son of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki was found dead at the University of California, Berkeley on Tuesday, his grandmother said on Facebook, NBC reported.

The student, who lived on the Clark Kerr campus — a student housing complex — was found dead on Tuesday around 4:23 p.m. local time, UC Berkeley spokeswoman Janet Gilmore said. The victim’s grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, confirmed the death and his identity in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

“My beloved grandson Marco Tropper, 19 years old, passed away yesterday. Our family is devastated.”

She said Tropper was “the sweetest, loving, smart, funny and beautiful human being.”

There were no signs of violent death on his body.

According to his grandmother, Tropper was “just getting started” in his second semester of freshman year at UC Berkeley, where he studied mathematics.

Although Tropper’s cause of death has not been determined, Esther Wojcicki told SF Gate that she believes her grandson died of a drug overdose. She said the family is awaiting the results of the toxicology report.
