Great sadness among the Düsseldorf carnival and ice hockey community: Carsten Gossmann, a child in the city, died completely unexpectedly at the age of 49. Gossmann was once a goalkeeper at Düsseldorfer EG and a former carnival prince.
Gossmann was in goal for DEG for eight years after joining the club as a youth player. In 1995/96 he won the German championship with the club and ended his professional career at the age of 28.

A post by the ice hockey club on Instagram made the death of the popular goalie public. The goalkeeper was still on the ice there with the traditional team last Thursday – which made the shock among Gossmann’s former companions, friends and family all the greater.

Hans-Peter Suchand, spokesman for the Düsseldorf Carnival Committee (CC), explained this “Rhineland Post”: “I can’t understand it, he was such a popular figure, one of the greatest princes I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.” Gossmann was Carnival Prince alongside Venetia Yvonne Stegel in the 2017/18 session.
The president of the Princes’ Club, Jobsi Driessen, made similar comments. “I can’t believe it yet, my thoughts at this time are with his lovely wife, his children and the entire Gossmann family.” Further circumstances surrounding Gossmann’s death are unknown. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
