– A man has fallen down a mountainside at Rørnestinden. The air ambulance has been on the scene and has confirmed that the man is dead. The man was part of a foreign travel party of a total of seven people. The municipality has been notified, and the police are on their way to the scene, writes Troms police district on X, formerly Twitter.
The man was part of a group of foreign skiers, says operations manager Morten Augensen in the Troms police district Northern Lights.
– At Rørnestinden, one of these has fallen down a mountainside. An ambulance helicopter with a doctor has been there, and the man has now been declared dead, says Augensen.
He currently has no information about the sequence of events or which country the tour group is from.
The report about the accident came at 2pm, around the same time as an ice climber was injured in a fall accident a few kilometers further south on the Lyngen peninsula, the newspaper writes.
A rescue helicopter was sent to retrieve the man and transport him down.
