Tragic Incident on Mount Lawu Claims the Life of Undip Student
SEMARANG, KOMPAS.com – A female student from Diponegoro University (Undip) in Semarang, named Anindita Syafa NK, tragically lost her life on Mount Lawu in Karanganyar, Central Java on Sunday (25/6/2023). The 20-year-old student was found deceased at the fourth Gupakan Menjangan post, located at Cetho Temple on Mount Lawu.
Choerud Salsabila, a Public Relations Student Nature Lover (Wapeala) from Undip, confirmed the incident. However, he clarified that the victim was not a member of Wapeala. “It’s true that she was an Undip student, but she was not from Wapeala. The group of nature lovers studying mechanical engineering, known as Mapala Kompas Undip, organized a fun hike on Mount Lawu from June 23-25, 2023,” said Salsa in a message on Sunday evening.
Anindita Syafa was one of the participants in the activity organized by Mapala Kompas Undip Semarang. Salsa further explained that the victim was a student from the Undip Mechanical Engineering Association. He also mentioned that he had not received a reply from Kompas students regarding the incident.
According to previous reports, Anindita Syafa NK hiked with 17 other Undip students with the intention of reaching the summit of Mount Lawu. However, while at post four, the victim allegedly experienced hypothermia, prompting the climbers to continue their ascent.
At around 12:06 WIB, a porter discovered the victim unconscious, foaming at the mouth, and without a heartbeat. Salsa urged everyone to wait for valid and definite news from the relevant authorities before jumping to conclusions. He also requested prayers for the deceased and all parties involved, expressing hope that such incidents would not occur again in the future.
